Protecting a Masterpiece

This lesson is builds upon the concept of the inner voice, introducing the establishment of boundaries though use of words, body language, time, and physical space.  It includes the importance of emotional pauses and an emphasis on responding to their gut feeling.

The students are taught about the many forms that child abuse can take (physical, emotional, neglect, sexual), and that there are also different types of human trafficking, such as forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation.

Linking Historical & Modern-day Slavery

This lesson identifies the connections between historical and modern slavery

by breaking human exploitation down to its most basic elements.

What is the motivation behind it?  How did, or does, it operate?  And, most importantly, how was it or how can it be stopped?

Young people can play a critical role in changing the paradigm of today’s slavery just as the abolitionists did in the nineteenth century with institutionalized slavery. The goal of this lesson is for students to promote civic engagement, to learn about the problem and decide upon, plan and implement meaningful service to address it.
